Community and government agencies

Community and government agencies work with families and help run Strengthening Families in their community.

Strengthening Families co-ordinators

Strengthening Families co-ordinators are responsible for the overall smooth running of the process. They help families and the agencies who can help them to get involved. Most Strengthening Families co-ordinators are employed in community organisations.

There are about 60 Strengthening Families co-ordinators throughout New Zealand.  

Local Management Groups (LMGs)

There are 60 Local Management Groups around New Zealand. They support the co-ordinators, do promotion and look at how local agencies can work together better to improve both Strengthening Families and other services for families. Members come from government agencies, local authorities, iwi and community groups.

Regional governance groups

Senior managers of government agencies, local authorities, community organisations, iwi and other stakeholders are members of regional governance groups. These groups play a policy, advocacy and strategy role. They are in the process of being set up in each region around New Zealand.  

Community Investment

Community Investment is the service line of the Ministry of Social Development that co-ordinates the funding, ensures that co-ordinators are in place and guides the overall direction of Strengthening Families. Community Investment reports on progress to the Minister for Social Development and the other government agencies involved.

  • Housing New Zealand

Social services forum

The chief executives from the Ministries of Education, Health, Justice and Social Development are responsible for the strategic direction of Strengthening Families.
